What is Augmented Reality (AR)?

Augmented Reality (AR) is a combination that takes digital information from the user’s environment in real-time. It changes natural environments to help provide further information to the user on this system, using 3D components to help create these worlds from an individual’s perspective to the real world.

It’s looked at as a versatile tool, in gaming, we look to create an immersive experience, making the games feel real. Retailers use it for virtual try-ons, so customers can see how clothes or furniture look before buying. In education, it brings subjects to life, making learning interactive and fun. In healthcare, it’s used for training, and helping doctors visualize complex procedures, these are just various examples of where AR is used to enhance the real-life experience within projects and education.

One specific and brilliant example would be Apple’s measuring app, which uses Augmented Reality to help set the real-life scene to a virtual reality scene to allow the user to select and choose the area they would like to measure in real-life time, as accurately as possible.

Here’s a video to show exactly:

Apple’s opening introduction to their measuring app presents how the app is created to use AR to help measure objects and packages through your phone. Accessing the measuring app that uses AR is a quick and great way to quickly get the information you need right at your fingertips.

How will AR be used in my book?

As for some of the images that will be in my book, I aim to try and get my images to be compatible with AR to help my audience get a better brief understanding of every photograph included in my book. The AR will be designed so that when your phone hovers over the picture, it gives you selections to see where this image was taken, and the meaning behind it, what happened? if possible, I will try to also get my image to display a before image of the place, to show what it once looked like before the damage.
