Thinking ethically
As I had previously stated, the 3 most important ethical considerations in my project were:
- Diversity
- Accessibility
- Privacy
Diversity
Taking into consideration that all ethnicities living in the UAE should be considered through their language, showing that not everyone may understand Arabic which can make it difficult for people to understand simple road signs and signals when driving or travelling around the UAE. However, as English is a worldwide language, it is essential that road signs and maps are to be labelled in English, whilst respecting the country’s original language for those who live in the UAE and do NOT understand English, Arabic should also be carefully considered to.
The figures above present a clear demonstration of how diversity should be considered when designing a VR world in a foreign country. Making sure that both languages the country and tourists are respected and presented correctly is important and ethical and should be carefully analysed when designing any VR world or in any designing circumstance.
Accessibility & Privacy
Due to the way the VR Frame is viewed, it is an online weblink, meaning it allows anyone who has access to that link to join and only view the world created. Accessibility will be further considered in the future when the VR world comes to life, making sure that colours are not too bright, and that readable fonts are checked and considered well so that my audience has an easy and smooth experience when using and entering the VR World. Same with privacy, it should always be carefully checked and regularly taken care. The level of security through the VR world should always be high and monitored, making sure that the audience’s email and private numbers, names and addresses are all kept in a safe algorithm and that the safety of my audience’s details is in a trusted space from unknown users and hackers.
Technology can be accessed in many different areas of the world and many different ways. Establishing ways to keep data at easy access and safely secured is vital to the emerging technology world, as technology is always updating, improving and growing. This also means that developers and hackers who are also improving and growing with the emerging technology world can be quite scary, and always need to have a firewall placed, or regularly checked within any Technology used.
