The brief was to outline and design some greeting cards that can be sold online to your targetted audience. Each task included a small timeframe equally divided to allow us to create and come up with something through this frame.
- thought shower a concept – 10 mins
- decide on one that seems to have legs – 3 mins
- agree on your target audience 2 mins
- work individually on a draft of the onboarding sequence sketchbooks only – quantity, not quality – 45 mins
- compile the best ideas into one idea – work together on this 30 minutes ( you will need to come up with a way of combining ideas visually)
- chose a spokesperson to present your work to the class
Groups were formed in 3’s amount us, but due to a medical problem, myself and Ellie had formed a group together for this project. Starting with the simple shower concept, we brainstormed a couple of ideas on how and what we planned to design for our greeting card. A video call was created between me and Ellie in order to create and come up with a concept idea together through Padlet, brainstorming and adding idea’s as we go along to make our design plan.
The Concept
Using our Padlet mood board, we came to a final design on our design idea for the ongoing project. Targeting well-known and famous celebrities, we decided to put them on our cards with their matching personalities being put up as a small slogan on the card.
The chosen target audience age is 18+, this is because of the adult and dark humour that is featured among these cards which are not suitable for ages below the average adult age.
Research
Digging the internet, we then moved on to the next step to find and gain further knowledge of these design ideas on how the internet has designed its own cards in order to help us build our structure. Using this method, allowed me and Ellie to understand business design and what they may look for.

Designing the logos
Before attempting to go any further with research, we also had to create a simple logo for this product. Sketches and shared design ideas were put onto Padlet for myself and Ellie to compare and come up with a simple but good design logo.

As shown in the figure, the logo uses a number of different colours throughout, but one colour that stands out the most is yellow which links us to Picmonkey, because the colour is quite unusual and can often give different emotions to the audience, we used the colour to interpret the ‘humour’ side of this project. The typography stayed black to stay visible and clear to the audience, not only reflecting back to the ‘Dark Humor’ we aimed for.
Sketches
The next 30 minutes were spent creating sketches of rough design ideas, trying and testing ways to come up with our final design piece for this project.

I had done the same design in multiple different styles to test out which design best fits with the spacing of the card designs. Organising the card to be non-complex for the eyes to view, alongside the image with its quote still visible. I was unsure of where the name of the card should be put, so I had drawn out multiple cards that show the name in a number of different places, whether that was the top of the card or the bottom the card.
Adobe XD
Using Adobe XD to test and create a mid-fidelity prototype using the designs we had previously sketched out, to see how successful the designs are online.

The Final Piece
Using the sketches I had designed and the designs Ellie had designed, each aspect of the sketches was taken apart from all drawing pieces in order to come up with a final design. The final design had features that were taken from both sides to create that “final design product”.
Because the app’s purpose was to send out greeting cards via celebrities, we decided the best option for the title was ‘Feeling Famous?’. it fits the funky and fun theme that the app has been designed in, and already gives a quick analysis of what the app is about.

Achievement Throughout
Due to both Ellie and myself not being able to attend the class, the work and criteria were all still met throughout the journey of this design product. I and Ellie worked incredibly well together given the circumstances we were in, and our ideas really fit well together throughout every step which brought our communication level higher between us. Listening and taking on board one another’s ideas, and respecting the choices only made it more accessible during the group work which is quite important when working in a group environment.
An improvement for next time would definitely be to try and achieve this work face-to-face rather than through a video call. Waiting on the other person because of a technical problem can often become a barrier and difficult when trying to achieve and finish tasks in the given time frames we were provided with, however, due to my conditions, it was difficult for me to achieve the face-to-face target.
